Omtale Leadership development in multinational companies
How do leadership tasks change as companies internationalize, and how can companies provide their leaders with developmental opportunities to prepare them for operating within this context? These are questions that are discussed in this book. The background is the growing number of multinational companies and the fact that leadership capacity and capabilities seem to be considered a major prerequisite for success. The book is the result of a common interest and cooperation between academics, researchers and consultants at the NHH (Norwegian School of Economics), the SNF (Centre for Applied Research at the NHH) and the AFF (Administrative Research Institute at the NHH), which constitute the NHH Group. This synthesis of insight from academics and consultants is a unique feature of this book. The book covers theories of leadership and organization that are relevant to the context of multinational companies (MNCs), empirical findings on leadership and leadership development, and recommendations for designing leadership development initiatives for MNCs. "To make progress, we need first to reverse out of the cul-de-sac that management has been driven into. We need to rediscover the original meaning of the word, and to think afresh about the underlying choices that firms make to enable them to get work done through others." "Until recently, the dominant view has been that leadership is an individual activity, while the process view has largely been found on the fringes. In recent years, however, it seems there has been a clear trend in leadership research towards a process understanding of leadership."
